Community Presentation - UU Church of Nashua
Oct. 30th, 2008 - Unitarian Universalist Church of Nashua

Benjamin Rush, Universalist Patriot The NH Department of Peace team presented to a receptive group of participants from the Unitarian Universalist Church of Nashua. Our evening was the culmination in a series offered by the church on ways to actively practice Peace.

We were joined by Benjamin Rush, Founding Father and proposer of a federal Office of Peace in 1792. In the reciprocity of sharing, we were gifted with the knowledge that Benjamin Rush was also a founding Universalist.

"Universalism holds a vision for a better world. By practicing forgiveness, we rise above the struggle. We do not ignore injustice. We can face it without fear. We can name it and point to a better way." - From a sermon by the Rev. Daniel Charles Davis "Benjamin Rush, Universalist Patriot"

It may feel hopeless to some, but across the world on September 21st people gathered to honor and celebrate the UN initiated International Day of Peace. It is meant to be a day of global cease-fire and, by intentional participation, a day to strengthen the ideals of peace.

The New Hampshire campaign to establish a U.S. Department of Peace and Nonviolence participated in a variety of events in the state to do just that, strengthen the ideals of peace and keep the hope enlivened.

Unitarian Universalist Church in Manchester Event
April 19th, 2008 - Manchester, NH

The NH DoP was invited to present at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Manchester where we addressed a small but interested gathering following their morning service. We all had the privilege of hearing the first-hand sharing of a reformed X-inmate whose personal shift was guided by the Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP) behind the prison walls. He was an inspired speaker who clearly demonstrated the effectiveness of these skills as a transforming power, skills which we could all use as citizens, governments and caring neighbors.

The candidates may show up at the local café, a house party or at an all out political rally. There is seldom a day when a Presidential hopeful is not active somewhere in our state. As a matter of fact there are websites offering this information along with morning reports of locations and times on NH Public Radio...
